How to play Counter Strike on your Android Wear smartwatch

April 26, 2016 / no comments, on Wearable Blog

There are people, who love gadgets. Then there are people, who love gadgets, have too much time on their hands and will try crazy experiments with their devices. Apparently, a smartwatch with the Android Wear OS is a perfect victim for some geek fun. Youtuber and blogger David Bennett has a smartwatch and managed to install and run the cult game Counter Strike. The game was published in 2000 by Valve and has become the number one hit among FPS loving gamers. Before you would run and try to install it on your watch, there are a few drawbacks. First of all, navigation is a major issue here. The screen size of any smartwatch is just not big enough. Second issue is network play, which does not exist (yet), so basically all you can do, is to wander around the map on your own. However, it is a great proof of concept and a proof, that today’s smartwatches have really powerful processors working inside. Just a quick reminder: the original game required a CPU running at least 1.7 Ghz, 512 MB of memory and a DirectX 8 compatible video card.
